hola hola
this week was great because of christmas!!!!!! monday we had noche de hogar like normal tuesday we went to our district meeting in huehue at around 3 and had our gift exchange, i got chocolate just like i wanted :) then at 5 30 we went to the parque to sing with the other huehue zones. we just started to contact people to tell them we were going to sing and that was actually really fun because the park was jammed packed with gente. and there is a giant tree that was playing christmas music pretty loud and sure enough when we tried to sing we had to yell at some points because of the loud tree. everyone was laughing and at one point we just started singing with the tree. it went on break so we could finish and it was really fun. our zone leader started preaching to the crowd and it was pretty hilarious. then that night we got to stay with the hermanas of prado because the buses to malacas stopped running at like 6 or 7. it was like a slumber party and apparently i was talking in my sleep....in spanglish. wednesday we headed back to our area in the morning and then had to go back to huehue at 3 to talk to our families! it was amazing and i didnt cry! im so proud of myself jaja. then we went to our zone christmas party of making sugar cookies and then our branch president and his wife did us a huge favor and took us and the elders home to malacas because there were no buses. then we headed up the mountain with flashlights to our christmas dinner with familia lopez. we had pierna rellena and it was amazing. need to learn to make it. then we went to mildreds house the recent convert to finsih the night. the gave us paches and ponche which is a hot fruit drink with every fruit imaginable and i love it! especially the coconut which i have grown to love here. we headed home and waited for the fireworks at 12 and then we opened our presents! it was a great noche buena. thursday was christmas but here the festivities were wednesday so it was just a normal day but no one was home so it was a struggle. we just ended the day caroling with the elders and visiting less actives and members. friday was normal but saturday i completed ONE year in the mission! so crazy! i cant even believe it! sooooo fast. its weird to think this whole 2014 i was here in guatemala and its already 2015 on thursday! so happy new year!!!!!! hope you all have a great week and safe and happy new year! xoxoxoxoxoxo hermana woods hola hola! this week was great we were just pretty much treking to huehue every other day so the work was slow. but this week we had a zone conference with president duncan of the 70. im pretty sure he is the president of the area central america. it was really coooool and just like last time we had a zone conference i got to give the opening prayer. im starting to not like the fact that they know my name jaja. but it was super good and they gave us a christmas dinner at the intermission and a gift at the end that is super cool! a plack with the xela temple and a quetzal bird! the conference was a lot about having converts and not just baptizing because this year in central america 22000 baptized but active and assisting still there are 2500. and that is just depressing. gave us lots to think about our branch had a baptism and a christmas party this week! the branch president did a good job buying prizes for the games and i ate grapes for the first time in probably over a year because i havent eaten any here! its crazy that this week i will be completing one year in the mission. i cant even believe it. i feel like i still have 7 months! times goes fast when your having fun for reals. today we had a party as a zone because we cant get together on christmas how sad. plus the buses wont be running from malacas to huehue..we are stranded out in the middle of no where pretty much. this week we also went caroling witht the elders and it was super fun but we realized how hard it is to keep a straight face with these elders because they are just like garrick! when one starts giggling i loose it. but the members love when we come sing to them. and we actually contacted some people too caroling. this tuesday we are going to the central park to sing with all the other missionaries and weve been practicing all week. and also our gift exchange as a zone before. fun week ahead especially because i get to talk to my family on christmas eve! wooohooo. not sure what we will do christmas because all of guatemala sleeps from staying up till midnight or later on chirstmas eve! maybe we will go machete the grass around the church to make a soccer field for the yout well i hope you all have a great week and a very merry christmas! feliz navidad y con mucho amor xoxoxoxoxo hermana woods hola hola!!!!!!! this week was great because first of all we went to the ruins today! 4 months in huehue and finally our zone got permission to go!!!!! we just took a lot of pictures, played capture the flag in our church clothes.....and got sunburnt!!!!!!!. last Monday aura my mom in Guatemala came to visit for noche de hogar with karina! it was the best but it was hard on me because I miss her and her family so much. I was crying for the first half hour but yeah im good now. its just really different going from a ward to a branch where there aren't as many members but we got this! we helped karina decorate her Christmas tree and it was so fun! Christmas is so close! we are now in charge of mutual with the elders because they are soooo boring and no one comes so hopefully we can change things! I had divisions with the Hermana leaders and I got to go to Victoria with Hermana pena from my group in the ccm! I love this Hermana and we had a blast! I wish one day we could be companions! I just loved teaching with her! then we ended divisions but my comp and her comp had to come shower in their house because our house is super chafa right now and we don't have water most of the time! especially in the mornings! finally by sunday we got it all figured out and we have water! but im so much more thankful for hot showers because we had cold showers then finally just bought a water heater and a 5 gallon bucket. its not the funnest but hey it works haha. I feel like a pioneer! right now the work is going good! we are loving this Christmas video called la dadiva in Spanish. we get to contact a ton of people just to show this video and Christmas is such a great time of year to contact people! sorry I don't have much time to write today! I hope you all have a great week and stay safe! love you all xoxoxoxo Hermana woods hola hola! so this week was pretty good! lots happened so im going to try to remember it all! monday we had noche de hogar with karina and a recent convert mildred who is soooo amazing! its hard to believe she got baptized only a month ago but she just is missing support from her family but she has some friends in the branch so thats good. karina made us blackberry crepes! mmmmm tuesday we had a random reunion with the zone at 8 am in the morning. we had to leave so early because we live like half an hour away from civilization jaja. but yeah it was just the zone leaders wanting more unity in the zone because we arent having the success we should be having. then we got back to the area and explored mas que todo and we actually found some cool people to teach. but then later the member we eat with everyday (alma lopez that lives on a mountain we have to hike everyday) had her daughter mari carmen enter the hospital in huehue with kidney stones and they had to operate because it was so serious. that night we visited ana silvia to see when she could visit with us in the week and she cut my hair. she is a master and now i have bangs! now i dont feel bald when i have my hair in a pony tail. wednesday ana silvia came with us in the afternoon and turns out she knows susana our investigator because she used to cut her hair. she know almost everyone in this small town because of her job jaja. but it was such a great lesson. then we were headed to another one when we found the elders and they asked us why we were in their area. oops. we had split the area up into little areas so we wouldnt cross paths or contact the same people but since we dont know where anything is still we were in their area....jaja thursday we had district meeting and i gave the message! then after we had a meeting with the elders to discuss our area and since we entered their area....oops again. they showed us the boundaries more and are gonna show us for like an hour everyday starting this week because this area is huge!!!! pobrecitos they have to go like once a week to an aldea 3 hours away climbing mountains and all. they always return drenched in sweat. mari carmen came home from the hospital and poor thing has a tube coming out of her stomach for at least a month! friday nothing much happened other that when we were walking home for the night we had just bought tortas and these 4 jovenes started following us and harrassing us. we found an investigator in the street and walked with her so they would stop. then we booked it and called the elders. they walked us home and then we passed the teenagers that were following us and the elders told us that every single one of them had like 14 or 15 years. great. i felt like a complete idiot but i didnt really want to turn around when they were following us. so we were followed by children....... saturday we had a great lesson with susana and she said she loves the feeling she gets when we come visit her and she is praying about the things we teach her and waiting for her answer! we had english class and some kids of an investigator came and they loved it. sunday it was fast sunday and i had the opportunity to bear my testimony because only 25 people came to church or less. but marilin a recent convert came! she has trouble getting out of bed before 12 so its a struggle for her. but she came and i had even bribed her with chocolate and she was super content. she even offered to give the lesson for next sundays sunday school for all the teenagers. then in the night she came with us to ana silvias to watch the christmas devotional. we visited karina and she gave us our santa hats so we can go caroling. and at 6 pm since it was dia del diablo. all of guatemala burns a devil doll in the street and sometimes take it into every room while its burning and its a pretty big deal. its a tradition to get the devil out of their lives but most people just call it his birthday so its pretty much devil worshiping! jaja today our zone went and just played signs because the zone leaders came late then we all went to mansion de tacos for lunch. we will probably all be sick tonight but it was super yummy. well i hope you all have a great week and i miss you all tons! xoxooxoxoxox hermana woods hola hola!
this week was crazy!!!! im in malacas which is short for malacatancito i think is how you spell it. my companion is darly garcia from bolivia but everyone thinks she is chinese because she has ancestors from korea jaja mi chinita. she has 3 months in the mission but i still feel like i have 3 months too but i just completed 11 this week! craziness so monday night hna garcia and her comp hna cadwell came and slept in our house so cadwell and thompson my comp could leave to xela at 3 in the morning for transfers in the terminal. we all four slept in 2 beds and it was super weird...jaja then tuesday morning we finished my packing and some members drove me and my new comp to malacas where we met the elders outside of our new house. we live in a 3 story house on the second floor. we got in there and started cleaning because people havent lived there in like a year or two. spiders everywhere and i think im getting better at killing them but only the super giant ones i let my comp handle! because they are as big as my palm. no thank you jaja. we cleaned then went and contacted for hours before lunch with hna alma who makes us lunch everyday and we just pay her every month. we got to meet the branch president and he is so cool! been in 6 months and the branch has an assistance of 40 to 50 people. that night when we got home he called us to give talks on sunday and said to be prepared for 15 min and this would probably happen every month at least because there are not a lot of people to choose from. this area is going to help me grow a lot spiritually especially because we also have to help give training meetings to presidencies like the relief society in the branch. wednesday we had district meeting and it was cool seeing everyones new companions! almost everyone is one latino and one gringo which is pretty cool. i got assigned to give the message in the next district meeting! whoohoo. im just a little nervous about it. thursday i competed 11 months in the mission and holy cow its so weird! we just contacted all day and visited members and less actives. its a neat area and when we go to lunch we have to walk up a mountain and i literally feel like im hiking in the mountains in mccall. pine trees and all. i love it. perfect for christmas time just missing the snow! friday we went before lunch to watch the family kill a pig. it was crazy and everyone thought me and my comp were gonna throw up but we were just taking videos and watching this brave old lady cut the pigs throat. then they shaved it and gutted it. got it all ready to make chicharrón. that was a pretty cool experience i will never forget! well i love my area and me and my comp are just contacting for now. we have a few investigators that are starting to progress so we are excited! but thats all for this week hope you all have a great and safe week! xoxoxoxo hermana woods |
