hola hola de huehuetenango
tuesday we had the baptism for cristofer! he is 9 and his mom is less active and his uncle who is awesome baptized him. it was pretty crazy planning a baptism in a week because we both knew nothing about this area but everything worked out! he was so happy and he was just glowing. pretty good day right? before the baptism the other wards primary was preparing a dance or something for friday night and they were playing blurred lines by robin thick in the church....well if you dont know what its saying i guess its alright right? hahaha....jajajajajaja we also had district meeting and before we played mafia. i guess its a normal thing here and im perfectly fine with it! wednesday we had lunch with the r.s. president and her kids are adorable and they love us. we contacted a bunchhhh because lets be honest we have no progressing investigators. not really sure whats been done here. because the area book has next to nothing in it....stressful week. then we visited some other members and we are having an activity with them tonight actually and they are all inviting friends over. super excited! thursday we had a great lesson with denny but he is leaving for the weekend and hopefully asking for permision to be baptized. then a great lesson with rosemary hopfully she will progress in the future. friday we went on a run in the morning and it was the first time that i liked running. but maybe we'll do it again in the future....our leader called us and told us he had news but didn't know how to tell me...i thought i had changes again and i almost flipped out. but turns out we just have to take online spanish tests that are like death. they give you a situation and in spanish you reply into a head set. that night the primary had an activity and all the wards and branches in the stake preformed a dance routine saturday was the hottest day of my life and we both got some good burns. we contacted a ton but found that all the churches here in this area really push into peoples heads that they cant listen to the mormons. so that was depressing. just give us a chance and we can change your life! sunday we walked the half an hour to chuch kinda in silence because non of the investigators could come but turns out two did come and sat with their member families! we both had to bear our testimonies and we helped teach another sunday school class. i honestly love this ward and they want to help so we have some activities and plans that will start the work moving here but if you got any ideas for us im all ears! i hope you all have a great week and stay safe! xoxoxoxoxoxoxxo hermana woods Monday August 18, 2014
hola hola............ this week was a little crazy. i want to first start off with.....ready for it????............i had emergency transfers to train another gringa hermana thompson in huehuetenango (way way tenango). i got the call thursday morning and had to be at the office at 3. im in zona huehue centro and area las flores. lots of change!!!!!! my week before my world turned upside down...(im with hermana gibson still in this part) so tuesday we met with the old man anibal and we met his son and wife and they are all so nice. the son owns a super nice gym. we thought he was 30 something but turns out he was 50...what!!! then we visited crazy noe and had a super distracted lesson with him. my comp always just starts laughing at him and he doesnt realize but she thinks hes adorable. we also visited jenifer and she is excited to come to church on sunday(i hope she went) then familia martinez who are so accepting of us and i love talking to them. it started pouring rain in our lesson so we were pretty much just yelling at them haha. fun day. wednesday we met with elisa and she owns a little tienda (store) close to us. we started talking and turns out she pretty much had a dream about the tree of life. so we left her with 1 nefi 8 in the book of mormon to read.. later that night we had a lesson with thelma and amilcar. their neighbor came over too anselma and she kept going off on rants and thelma would fall asleep. it was super funny. then my world turned upside down...... well jueves was probably one of the craziest days. they call me at 8 am to tell me that i have cambios and that i need to pack my bags but im still training a different hermana. so we go to our zone interviews with president after packing and saying tearful goodbyes to some members but my converts anibal and judith werent home because they were working...i was crushed. we had our interviews and man me and hermana gibson were both so sad and crying and confused. we were doing so well i thought and now everything was changing. pres told me im going to huehue and he was suprised that no one told me. he said he recieved revelation so we are just following what the lord wants. then we got home put my stuff in the taxi and headed to the office. then the taxi took me annd my new comp hermana jessica thompson from california to the terminal to get on the bus for huehue. its a 2 and half hour bus ride and im suprised my suitcases didnt fall off the top of the bus. but man its a beautiful drive and its pretty here. its like a lot hotter and now i only sleep with a small blanket because i feel like im in vegas at grandpa and grandma calls house. we dont share this area las flores with anyone so we are pretty much solas out here and pretty much opening this area since my comp is fresh out of the ccm 3 weeks or so ago and her comp before didnt show her too much of the area. anddddd the old hermana here used all our minutes and texting for the month before the 14th of the month...what! yeah thats a problem. friday we met some of the investigators they have. we actually have a baptism for a 9 year old who has been coming to chruch with his uncle for like the past 6 months. his name is cristofer and he gets baptized tomorrow. he is adorable. we had to drop a family the hermanas before had been working with becasue they wont come to church so im not sure why they were always visiting them. they are just fun to talk to i think that is why. saturday we had lunch with the bishop and talked to him about how we want to work witht the ward and all work in unity and all that jazz. he is super cool so im sad to say that on... sunday our bishop was released so that was another bump in the road but hopefully things will still be good. i got to lead the music in sacrament meeting and i thuoght id have to bear my testimony but nope! i got lucky and just lead music. the old bishops wife asked us to help her 12 year old sunday school class and we talked with them about the importance of the family. it was really fun. in this chapel here i legit feel like im in hawaii becasue there is a breeze going through and there is just so much green here. whoo hooo we also had a correlation with our ward mission leader. you know your in guatemala when your ward mission leader is shorter than you. can you beleive it! he is adorable and so tiny. never thought that would happen huh? im gonna end with a quote ´´he knows your name, he knows your needs, he knows right where you are, because he placed you there, because he loves you´´ hope you all have a great week and take care! xoxoxoxx hermana woods August 11, 2014
hola hola! first off happy birthday grandpa on thursday! hope you have a great day! today was probably the one of the hardest pdays physically. we pretty much went rock climbing. we went to la muela and hiked up to the top of all the lava rock and there were tons i mean tons of people up there in groups having prayer sessions and it was actually pretty creepy. after going there today we werent really sure why it was allowed but hey it was fun and probably the last group that will ever go there haha! this week on martes we had an activity with jennifer! our new investigator which she is awesome and doesnt really know much about jesus so we love teaching her! then we taught english to some of familia santizo we also had our last zone meeting with elder browning. miercoles we met with brenda and she had a ton of questions and she is becoming one of our great friends! we met with david and he was super happy to meet with us and he was confused why we hadnt been meeting. but then he didnt come to church after promising he was going to so we are gonna give him another break.....also this day was great becasue some members gave us root beer floats at lunch! it was the first time id had root beer in 7 months! thursday we had another lesson with jennifer and she is progressing. she couldnt come to church because she went to visit her dying grandpa. but hopefully next sunday. then we had a party at a members because elder browning is leaving tomorrow. they made dinner and i alsmost cried when his convert said her last speach to him about how she was so grateful that he brought her the gospel. so awesome! saturday we visited a crazy guy named noe and we found his house becasue he had painted his name randomlly on his house we had a good laugh about that and also he said oh you guys are from the church of mormonas of latter day saints. also we had the best lunch of ceviches and i loved it! i will be making it a ton for you familia! just you wait. also we met with yomara and henry. henry finally talks to us and he is awesome! he is a less active but we are gonna reactivate him! well this week was pretty awesome! i hope you all have a great week. remember to pray everyday and if you ask in faith ye shall recieve. God loves us! xoxoxox hermana woods hola hola!
so lunes we met with reyna and her family, familia santizo. we arent really sure who is who in the family but there are tons of kids and tons of women and a few guys but they are great. they have a ton of preguntas. then we had a fhe with less actives and they fed us dinner with the elders. then that night we planned and their earth started trembling. it was the first earthquake ive experienced that wasnt when i was in my bed usually they are in the early early morning. so even though it was small i freaked out a bit i cant lie. haha martes we went and made rice krispie treats with brenda and her two kids. she is so awesome. then we had our first lesson with onelia and she is going to start working again so it is gonna be difficult to find her but we have faith! miércoles we had a great lesson with familia santizo about the word of wisdom becasue monday they wanted to give us coffee and one ofthe guys wants help with his alcohol addiction sowe got to explain that and answer all their questions and told them we were gonna bring them morcaff so they could stop drinking coffee haha. jueves we had a lesson with carmen and lucia and grecia came with us the returned missionary in our ward. then we visited our neighbor elisa that sells tortillas and its funny because the elders tried to contact her before and said she was cranky and tried to sell them tortillas 3 for 1 quet but its really 4 for 1 quet. haha but to us she was super nice and was giving us food the whole time and the first time we contacted her she gave us like 12 tortillas for free! then we taught sheila about the book of mormon she has been reading and she has so much faith so we love visiting with her. viernes we taught an english class to investigators. most of the kids in familia santizo came and it was super fun. then we met with brenda and imer and read 3 nefi 11 with them. they loved it and she kept saying que lindo que lindo. sábado it was elder brownings birthday so we bought cupcakes and a bubble blowing gun for him. he leaves in like 2 weeks then we will have a new zone leader. they also at lunch described myfuture husband becasue apparently elder dalton has a gift. lets just say i may choose to never get married...then we met with carlos and his two sons daniel and melvin. he kept leaving the room the whole time we were teaching and i was super weird becasue he wouldnt say anything he would just leave then wander around and come back. interesting lesson thats for sure! domingo i woke up sick and was throwing up all night every couple hours. we went to church and i looked white as a ghost but guess who was there! president! and thankfully the nurses so i talked to them and i almost threw up on her and turned green so they sent me home after sacrament meeting. we had to stay in all day so i felt bad for my comp because i was just sipping on gatorade and soup but couldnt keep anything down. the elders came and gave me a blessing and i put on some essential oils and in the morning today i woke up fine! thank goodness becasue being in the house all day is torture! today we went to lunch with some other sisters in the zone and we went to burger king and it was sooooo good. i love american food. new rule in the mission we can eat inside of restaurants. and we can go to the forbiden walmart once a month with the zone! whooohooo |
