hola hola!
feliz dia de independencia!!!!
we found out our zone gets to go to the temple on october 1st! whoohooo
monday we had a noche de hogar with familia lopez and denny came! they are so good at making him feel welcome in the ward and everything! then we also had a lesson with eleina. its hard with here because she is single and lives in a little room with her three small children and makes tortillas from 7 am to 8 pm or later. and she works sundays of course.
tuesday we helped aura move 200 cement blocks to her moms house! i was wishing i had gloves but it wasnt bad. i love service projects! we get to wear jeans! then later we had a great lesson wih maria and her two daughters. her husband was still in mexico for the week so he wasnt around. its sad we just want to teach them all together!
wednesday we met the craziest korean guy. we contacted this lady elizabeth and this guy her boyfriend invited us in and we were talking to them but we couldnt understand him because he knows VERY little english and VERY little spanish. it was a struggle. his girlfriend has been pretty used to his spanish so she could translate to us. to us it was just spanglish and it was soooo difficult. then they gave us jello and he was eating it with his chopsticks. the whole experience was just super funny. we left asking eachother if that really just happened. who would have thought we'd find a korean in the middle of huehuetenango? then around 8 ish the lights went out in all of the city so we were told to just go home because the streets were just pitch black and super scary! thankfully we had a candle and some flashlights.
thursday we had district meeting and i got my packages! i was sooo happy! we contacted some references and found estuardo who works in a little tienda. then the lights went out in all of huehue again so we jus went to a members house to wait it out. the second night in a row around the same time! crazy! they gave us some towels because we were quite soaked from the rain.
friday we helped a member paint her walls in her kitchen and living room. it was pretty fun because she is awesome! we also met with maria and her daughters and again her husband tomas was not home. so convinient! then we took some less actives to the relief society activity of favorite dishes of food. before it started we had spiritual message then the lights in all of huehue went out again! we were all like are you kidding! thankfully the church has a generator so we could continue the activity and stuff our faces with all the food the sisters brought. i may or may not have thrown up afterward because they were all forcing food on us and we didnt eat that much it was just all super greasy and wasnt good on my stomach.
saturday we had to be in the house at 6pm and also on sunday and maybe even tonight we arent sure yet because the celebrations for the day of independence. its not crazy here but i think it was just a mission wide rule.we made cookie dough and cooked them in a frying pan because well we dont have an oven. another sister in the area next to us called and said they did the same but she tried to microwave her cookie and it kinda started a fire in their microwave. so she told us to not try it ahah.
sunday i ended up having to lead the music in sacrament meeting and they started playing the hymn reverently and meekly now. yeah no one knew it so we had to stop and switch it to i stand all amazed. they just sing like the same 10 hymns here and dont learn new ones but the bishop told the ward after to learn the hymn during this next week so we can sing it sunday. we will see how that goes. also sidenote. since everyone owns a moped skooter or a motorcycle here all the members of the bishopric wear leather jackets on the stand. makes me chuckle inside. go guatemala!
but hey that was my week! sorry i dont have a ton of pictures today! only 3 but i hope you all have a great week!
